Brick by Brick & Stick by Stick – HGT Builds the Foundation for a Well-Balanced Dog :*)
Written by Pam on April 22, 2015
At HGT, we always like to lead our Lab & Golden families on the straight and narrow when it comes to our puppies. Seeing that we will have a couple of litters here before the end of the year, we thought that it is a good time to start sharing with all our HGT families the do’s and don’ts in puppy rearing :*)
Find a good vet! Call several veterinarians and see if you can take a few minutes of their time – pay for a consult if you need to – it is worth it. Find someone that you feel is patient, loves animals and someone that has that personality type that is quite like your own.
Think about your dog’s food. This is very VERY important.
At HomeGrown Trilogy, we only feed our puppies and dogs, Life’s Abundance – Life’s formulas are nutritious, gluten-free, have never been recalled and the bag will be delivered directly to your door – it’s that simple. For many years, we have researched for a dog food to perform as Life’s does and I am truly delighted with the results. (If you are interested in learning more about Life’s Abundance, please read about it under our tab in the website called Eat&Be Well or call us)
Start reading our HGT Blogs – the new and the older ones – we post many Many things you should and should NOT get for your HGT puppy. Stay away for all things puppy and never NEVER buy Raw Hide or Nylabones – these products are dangerous and could kill your puppy if ingested!
Think about a crate – only invest in a large crate with a divider. You can place dividers in the crate so that the puppy does not disappear in its own crate and one that will be useful when your pup has grown into that well-behaved dog :*) We can show you a few things that we do with our puppies to ensure they actually love their den/crate :*)
Pick up a couple of good how-to understand our canine companions books. It is really all about establishing trust and allowing some supervised freedom. I have listed a few of my treasured books under the blog…A primer – Must Read…
Start thinking about Dog training – yes – you need to set aside some ‘funds for fun’ and this is a must have – Once your puppy has had all its vaccinations or once it hits 16 weeks, have some fun and take the pup to socialization classes – you will learn alot of things good for your HGT puppy and the puppy will have a good time meeting other puppies his age. Enjoy, Pam
