Puppies Love Puppy Love :*)

Written by Pam on May 1, 2015

Yes, if you live with dogs, like I do … and we have many… I will never run out of things to talk about or write about and a puppy’s love is one topic that I gravitate to always:*)

This litter is not only amazing but now every puppy is fascinating in their own way.  They seem to understand each other as they are expressing themselves very clearly throughout the day.  They love seeing their mom and grandma come and visit their new play area.  They even enjoy a quick game of nudging and sniffing with their Uncle Ozzy.  The pups have already learned that there is a hierarchy in this HGT doggie pack, and they are not yet anywhere near the top…yet!

In this blog I want to show you our way of testing the pups’ temperaments.  As much as you will love your puppy, I feel it is very important for you to best understand what your puppy’s temperament will be.  Keep in mind, these are basic tests, there is no 100% certain way to predict a temperament, but just basing it on the parentage and grand parentage, the temperament of your HGT golden grand will be highly desirable.

You can view each picture as each pup has it’s own, but the result of each is astoundingly the same – we hold the pup on their backs while holding them in the palms of our hands without saying a word for a minute or two, and wait and watch for a reaction.  As you will see from the pictures, these golden grands are quite mellow and did not struggle to get right sided – they trust us already at 4.5 weeks  – All the pups passed their temperament testing here at HGT with High-Paw-5’s!

We have already started working on some non-verbal commands. The pups instinctually want to play and get to know everyone that enters into their play area.  They greet you with wagging tails, they paw at you and the start to coo – adorable right… well we have taken it one step at a time and when a paw is raised we tap on the paw and praise – this is letting the pup know that this is a good behavior and to repeat it once we tap on their paw again. As they get a little older, we will give this behavior a name, we will hold the paw when it is extended and they will get a yummy reward.  At 4.5 weeks, we have already seen a couple of the pups doing this repeatedly!

I hope you all received your pick-a-puppy weekend schedules from HGT’s customer service.  We look forward to meeting all our HGT Golden Grand  families in a couple of weeks!

Enjoy the pics! Cheers, Pam
