PRESENCE

Your presence is all that is needed when you start to train your HGT puppy. We have already started to train the pups and will continue with some basic commands before they are picked up at 8 weeks. The pups do not get any yummy rewards yet. We only offer them the praise and a repetitive word.
The pups are starting to understand that the fun is not only with their litter mates, but with humans and the extension of the human – the human hand. They understand that the hand must mean something good because the hand is what strokes their fur, that lifts them closer to our faces, and most importantly the hand feeds them.
As you will see from the pictures below, the pups are trying to understand what I am trying to get them to do. Purple girl is giving it her all – first one paw – then both front paws then into a beg position. Light Green boy, is trying to figure it all out by offering a paw for starters.
Over the next few weeks, you will see each puppy demonstrate what they are learning here at HGT – you might even see a video of each puppy.
Above is a picture of our Ty-Ty who, in my estimation, demonstrated the love of our presence and the willingness to please at the doggie training center yesterday. Ty truly amazed us as we have not been working with Ty as much as we should to reinforce these ‘silent commands’ that were taught to her over the winter during her foundations II class. She knew the command and performed each command – spot-on – Congrats Ty!
