Just because you didn’t win, does NOT mean you didn’t roar!

When we go to AKC dog shows, there is always the element of hesitation.  At HGT our dogs are smart, obedient and well-balanced but they are new to the show ring.  So right now we are turning heads but we have not yet taken any notable wins.  This is what I mean when I say just because of a no-win does not mean we did not roar!  We always try to leave a lasting impression…  :*)

It takes time and patience during the handling classes to make sure the confidence level is where it should be and the follow-through and movement is right-on.  Even when you teach a puppy, it takes repetition, repetition and praise.  Then when the pup finally gets it, you sit there amazed.  Just because the puppy did not follow through with the expected reaction, you always have to make them feel like he did – he won!  Do not get mad or yell – this is the worst thing to happen while training – I would rather you turn your back on the puppy – a clean slate – and start the training later or the next day.

Below are videos of Akona and Enoch.  The pups are still learning – but they want to please and they so want that tasty yummy – so I know that each day, they are getting closer to demonstrating the command.  In the separate videos you will see Akona and Enoch repetitively performing the command for sit, down, and say hi.  You need to make sure your HGT pup understands the verbal command before you start the silent commands.  The silent command for down is your right hand as high above your head as you can reach – and with practice, the pup will show you how attentive they have been. Akona is still learning this silent command and Enoch is still in the process of learning the verbal command for down.  But once they both learn the non-verbal down, we will video each in the back yard at a distance from us and see if they immediately drop to a down once they see us with our right hands above our heads.  I stress this command because it might save your pup’s life if you need him to immediately drop down and not come if there is danger in his path. :*) Enjoy the videos, Pam
