Blown Away, Lie in Wait, Baffled

Well, these are all the emotions that I felt this morning while we were at one of our favorite vet’s office with our magnificent trio waiting for the moment of truth and to learn whose ultrasound showed us what we have seen many many times here at HGT! We were waiting for Koko’s, Ty’s and Kissakee’s pregnancy ultrasound results!
Above HomeGrown Trilogy’s: Ty, Kiss, Koko
HGT’s Koko Kawaii Hito: We made a conscious decision to take Koko out of retirement for one more litter. It was a decision we made based on dismissing Kissakee to breed this time around because Kiss just turned two and is a smaller labrador. We needed to do more research in locating a suitable (smaller) sire for HGT’s Kissakee. So out from retirement came Koko Kawaii Hito, just to make me melt today- Koko did what she does best, she pleases me and she conceived! Koko was bred to Zinfndel’s Markers Mark Marcus. This is the first breeding of the pair. Koko has delighted many HGT families with her healthy, delightful, jolly-happy puppies! Now she will continue to bring more delights or…chocolates our way. This litter, I am told will be a small litter, so we will continue to keep our hopes high and to keep our Koko in fine shape for her next litter of prodigies to join us!
HGT’s Kissakee Crest: If you have been reading our blogs you will be thinking why did Pam take Kissakee to the vets? Well we saw some very distinct changes in Kissakee so we thought it best to have her examined and have an ultrasound done. Kissakee has given us a tremendous surprise – that actually had me in tears. Kissakee conceived… Kissakee concealed her desire and worked her magic without any help from me. So – as a responsible breeder, I want Kissakee to whelp and wean her puppies. I will also train these beautiful puppies, but – I will also have to do DNA testing on each puppy she produces – as the sire could be one of two that have been with Kiss over the last month. It could even be a dual sire litter – the DNA results will give us a clear understanding. Although because this was not a planned litter, I will not be registering this litter as I will with Koko’s litter.
HGT’s Tisetsu Tomadachi-Ty: Ty is a magnificent labrador – we put her through tests that I never thought she would conquer, but she does – amazingly. Although this last task I put her through she did not succeed – she did not conceive. This was our second attempt to breed Ty – so the next option we have during her next heat would be to do an artificial insemination by surgical implant breeding. I am told that the chance of conception is very good, but it can decrease the number of puppies. My other choice would be to do what I have put on the back burner for a long time – that is to get our very own lab show sire here at HGT. This is going to be a process as I look for all clear/good/normal genetics when I select a sire for our breeding program – so our HGT sire will come to us with nothing short of this list. Only time will tell.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.
I also wanted to include another quote that I love by Ralph Waldo Emerson…
“The greatest gift is a portion of thyself, and any definition of a successful life must include being of service to others.”
