BRING IT…!

When I’m not researching different genetic tests on our Labradors and Goldens I find myself drawn to another creature. Still a mammal but one that enjoys its time in water and that creature is a Beluga Whale. My daughter and I ventured to mystic aquarium leaving the puppies and dogs home for a quick get away, a Beluga encounter. I have to say that may seem odd, but I’m so in love with the Beluga whale. Wish I was younger, I would work for mystic aquarium. We not only enjoy the Beluga entertainment and the touch but we also learned about these creatures. In some parts of the world they are becoming endangered due to climate change and noise pollution. I believe the trainer was saying there’s a certain part of Alaska where the Beluga is so endangered and it’s due to humans’ neglect and polar bears’ keen sense of smell and ferocious appetites!!!
It’s just my voice but noise kills these amazing creatures and if you know anyone in Alaska pass along this important message. Below are some pictures of Juno, a 15 year old male weighing over 2,000 lbs, and his incredible tricks… he even knows how to ‘jaw pop’ which startles yet amuses most that get that chance to see him do this! And one other little tidbit (actually it’s pretty large – about 120 lbs) when the Beluga whales whelp their young, the calf comes out tail first and as odd as I thought this was, being a breeder, it makes perfect sense because they are mammals and breathe air, the birthing could take an hour or so and the calf’s head needs to stay in the womb to survive but once the tail, body and head are released into the water, it instinctively knows to go to the top of the water to take its first breath of air. And had it come out head first, taking an hour to expel the calf, it could drown in the birthing process. Above are some of the photos about the belugas and their offspring. This was a truly beautiful experience that both my daughter and I had together as we both share the love of the Beluga!
