Dogs Days of Summer :@)

The summer time is a great time to have a HGT puppy. The pup is learning that there is a new family and that new family loves him and wants the very best for a growing puppy.
Please remember that the puppy is very young – this Saturday they will be 9 weeks old and the pups are not at all fully vaccinated against things that could cause some problems for the puppy! Remember what I discussed at Puppy Pickup – the pup should not go on the pavement or on the streets just yet for a walk – I know you are anxious to run with your pup and to take long hikes, but you must remember that without all the proper vaccinations you are leaving your pup open to catching some terrible diseases from eating, licking or sniffing what our wildlife neighbors leave behind!
Once the puppy has been given its 16 weeks vaccinations and the pup has built up the immunity from those vaccinations, (around 20 weeks) then I would allow the pup out to wander around his new surrounds while being constantly supervised. Pups, like babies, experience the world around them by putting everything in their mouths. Grass that has been fertilized, a puddle that could have been frequented by your pesky raccoon, or down to the lake where some parasites can be hiding out – can host many culprits! One may not think about those negatives that come with the beauty of nature, but we do here at HGT – we have experienced it all! Please think before you do – when you have a young puppy!
Here are some pictures taken of our pups who are staying with us for a little while learning some Pam commands and experiencing some handler’s training. Most of the fun starts and ends on our deck – the pups have their daily play time with their toys and their pool, then we start some structured basic command training, and then quiet time – all without going on the grass or on the pavement…just yet!
