At HGT we train our puppies before they leave the HGT nest and the training starts as early as 7 weeks. We believe that it is beneficial for the new KokoBo family as well as for the puppy to understand a simple command just in case the puppy slips out of your grasp. The use of a familiar command can be used to stop the pup in his tracks – so we believe the sit-down command might help. (The ‘say-hi”command we just love to teach at such an early age to prove that labs are one of the smartest breeds and as pups, can learn whatever you have the time to teach! We also love for our KokoBo families to show other lab owners, what a HGT lab puppy knows @ 7-weeks :*)
Below are three of our pups from Koko’s current litter learning – sit and say hi. Remember what I said earlier in another blog about ‘trust’ not ‘control’– you need to be patient and allow the puppy time to figure out what you are trying to show him. Repetition as well as a very small morsel of a treat is sufficient for enticing the puppy and the praise is what connects to the command.
Because we love our puppies and want them to start off not only knowing a couple of commands but we also want them to be introduced to ‘that’ lead … what it is and what it should symbolize to them, we will be offering our KokoBo families, further training. Should you need more lessons, we can accommodate the private training but we will need to schedule ½ hour appointments for a small fee. If you live a distance, always check our blogs where we will be posting many of the commands that we have already taught our HGT puppies.
