HGT’s RECIPES for the KONGS:

Written by Pam on December 9, 2014

I have been asked to publish a few HGT gluten free (mixture) recipes that I created to fill our Kongs for the puppies and our dogs.  These recipes can be altered to your liking but just make sure that whatever you mix together is good for your puppy – always add his kibble to the mixture so that there is no disturbance to his digestive system.  In the next year, I hope to have published my series of Gluten-Free Canine Cookbooks and Gluten-Free Cookbooks for those of us who have Gluten allergies…:*)

The Savory-Side Recipes

1)    Boiled Shredded Chicken, Cottage Cheese, Plain Yogurt, Peanut Butter, String Beans, Kibble

Mix together, pour into Kong and freeze

2)    Boiled Salmon, Parsley, Cottage Cheese, Kibble

Mix together, pour into Kong and freeze

The Sweet-Side Recipes

1)    Pumpkin puree (without spices), Plain Yogurt, Blueberries, Kibble

Mix together, pour into Kong and freeze

2)    Cored and sliced apples, Peanut butter, Plain yogurt, Kibble

Mix together, pour into Kong and freeze

The TAKEAWAYS:

The takeaways –  All the recipes that you concoct for your puppy have to be made from fresh ingredients AND most importantly those ingredients NEED to be puppy friendly.

+ Look at the ingredients of the puppy’s kibble that you are currently feeding your puppy – many times you will find that his dog food has many items that we eat.

+ Look, for instance, at the Life’s Abundance Dog Food – many of Life’s varieties  contain, Salmon, Chicken, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Spinach, Blueberries, Apples. So when I start to prepare some Kong mixture recipes, I think about what the puppy has been enjoying and add a couple more ingredients to make it tasty and by placing the mixture in the Kong – makes for more fun!

+ Fish oil is a good supplement for the pups and dogs – it promotes hydration/moisture for their skin and it keeps their coats shiny & beautiful .  Occasionally add a little fish oil  to their food or a fish oil supplement broken up and added to their Kongs or kibble is always a good thing.  Or if you prefer to prepare for your pup, a boiled/steamed or baked bland fish (without the bones!), that would be most appetizing but always give him a small amount and always mix it with the kibble! You can purchase the fish supplements and/or fish oil under the HGT heading of Eat&BeWell. Life’s Abundance has many interesting products, supplements, treats and food for your puppy.

–         NEVER – NEVER feed your puppy any of the following:      Raisins, Grapes, Chocolate, Onion, Garlic –

–         Make sure if you are creating a Kong recipe using Salmon/Chicken/Mean – makes sure that the ingredient is NOT seasoned with onion or garlic.

–         Make sure all the fish, chicken and meats are:  bland – boiled/steamed – boneless -then combine with the other ingredients.

Below are some pictures of the HGT puppies enjoying their Kongs – I purchase the very largest Kongs I can find.  The pups seem to settled down and share the Kong and of course, the contents! Enjoy, Pam
