How Best Friends STICK Together –The Human+Canine Bond…
Written by Pam on January 23, 2015
Dogs have long been considered “man’s (and women’s) best friend,” and they have certainly earned that ribbon for “best friend ever”! Our dogs are companions and with that friendship they truly help us relax, possibly even lower our blood pressure and notably keep us active. They also allow us to be ourselves – no cover-up – because they will know whose who under that mask, if there was one! Our dogs are so many things to us and we are what to them? What’s in it for them? We offer them love, shelter, and nourishment for them to thrive. It just feels like the scale is not balanced because our dogs give us leaps and bounds more in life than we give them.
I was just talking with a woman in Oregan who was telling me the life expectancy of a Mastiff – 8 – 10 years. To me, that is not enough time to get to know this dog before its time to say good-bye. Like me, she fills her home with Mastiff’s, to never to be without that gentle wet kiss, that hero’s welcome, that trick that only they know so well. The bond that is created is unmistakably genuine – nothing artificial, nothing unattainable, just pure love.
If you hunt with your dog, or swim with your dog, or simply sit together quietly – don’t you feel that the love, the companionship and how this non-verbal mammal has changed you into a better person? Yes it is true that when a dog enters into your home and into your life, everything will change – but this change is unmistakably for the better! They unconditionally love you – that’s it!
The bond that you have with your HGT puppy starts as soon as I hand this beautiful pup to you and that bond will never stop growing. You need to constantly participate in things that your pup will enjoy too, like that of obedience training, grooming and always find time 5 – 10 minutes each day for playtime – You will be amazed as how quickly the pup picks up on your routine and actually waits for the ‘fun’ to start even if it is for a short period of time.
So be that best friend to your new furry addition, they will make you proud & you will be happy that you held on to …your end of the stick! Enjoy, Pam
