Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful!

There are only a few animals that are as lovable as a dog and only one other dog breed that is as lovable as a lab…of course the other breed is the golden!
At HGT we try our very best to produce healthy, jolly-happy, marvelous Labradors and Goldens. Many things attribute to achieving our goal – all of our dogs go through a regiment of health clearances, genetic testing, obedience training, and lots of love. Once our puppies arrive, all are checked and re-checked again to make sure we have a healthy litter.
There are outside obstacles that get in the way of our achievement sometimes and we need to make sure that everyone knows this precautionary step when purchasing items for your puppy. Puppies can get themselves in heaps – yes, heaps – of trouble if they are playing with the wrong type of puppy/dog toy. When purchasing an item for your puppy – Always – Always think about- is the item indestructible – whether it is puppy bedding or a new toy – all puppies go through a teething/mouthing stage where they will chew/tear/swallow – anything that will give some type of comfort to their deciduous teeth coming in, then falling out to make room for their permanent canine teeth. This is a process and a painful one for all types of puppies – although I know first-hand that our labs and goldens tend to find relief only in chewing. When shopping for your puppy, SKIP ALL THINGS PUPPY – go right to the adult dog items. I cannot tell you how many new toys that I have thrown away because I feel they are unsafe – go to the Kong toys – only the largest – toughest Kong available. Even some of the Kongs made for Puppies are still not strong enough. Remember our world does not have to be perfect to be wonderful, but I just want everyone of our HGT pups to be safe and not to choke or swallow something fun for them, devastating for the families! (The pheasant dog toy in the video is one of my training tools but you can see how it has already been altered by one of my dogs!)
I am dedicating this blog to our wonderful pup Blu-Jake. Jake is doing remarkably well. He is an amazing puppy and he has already gone through an amazing journey and has surprised us at each turn. Blu-Jake will continue to make life wonderful! Please look at his video below. Thanks, Pam
