Man’s + Woman’s BLESSED Friend!

I recently read this article that was published by ABC News on-line and I want to share it with all my HGT lab owners. The article revealed how a pet Labrador repeatedly pushed his nose against his owner’s leg, sniffing a lesion through the owner’s pants. When the man had the lesion examined, he learned it was a basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, and had it removed.
Further studies were done enlisting the help of two Labradors and one German shepherd to use their ‘dog-noses-is’ and to sniff through compartmentalized areas and search for the urine sample that contained prostate cancer. The dogs were taught to lie down in front of the right compartment when the smell was detected. Since dogs (particularly Labrador retrievers and German shepherds) have been bred to respond well to human interaction, it’s fairly simple to train the animals to signal when they’ve caught a scent.
So it is my strong feeling that if any of your dogs seem to sniff or nudge at at you repetitively in the same spot, at first think of it as a joyful experience with your dog,but if it becomes persistent, please have that area of your body examined by your doctor. Dogs are born equipped with one of nature’s best smelling tools and with the correct training – I agree our dogs will assist in …sniffing out cancer…hence Man’s + Woman’s Blessed Friend! Enjoy + Love your 4-legged friend!
