OFA :@) :@)

The acronym, OFA , might mean a lot of things to a lot of people but here at HGT it speaks volumes in creating beautiful healthy strong lines that we spend years creating. OFA to HGT is the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.
From the help of our friends at OFA, we test our dogs, Eyes, Elbows & Hips and get a determination of the perfection or lack thereof. Everyone of our breeding dogs go through this regiment as well as other genetic testing. If they pass, they are entered into our breeding program. The OFA’s are based on the expert reading of x-rays of the hips/elbows – which result in following scale: 1=Excellent, 2=Good, 3=Fair, 4=Mild, 5=Moderate, 6=Severe. In my estimation anything above a mild rating should be considered normal.

Grand Champion Markers Mark owned by Dr. Rock Vali – Chinar Labradors
We are so very excited here as our Kissakee Crest just turned 2 on February 9th and had her OFAs performed! All looks good for our Kiss but we need the official report from OFA in a few weeks. We have already selected a beautiful strong-boned, eye catching black Champion sire picked out for our beautiful chocolate girl. This will be our very first deviation from our beautiful chocolate-to-chocolate breeding. We think it is importatnt to occasionally bring black pigmentation back into the lines and Kiss will be the first lab we now have to show us what she can produce. If Kiss conceives we will be expecting a litter of chocolates and black lab puppies.
Kiss and Ty are sisters – both intelligent creatures but Kiss excels in any agility/athletic testing we put her through. Ty takes the lead with temperament. Ty is just a happy-jolly soul and really not too much can dampen her spirit – this is why she and our daughter have done very well at AKC events :@)

Erin Hills You Had Me At Hello, JD owned by Cheryl Curtis
We are also waiting on Ty. As most of you know Ty has passed her OFA’s last year but did not conceive, so we want to try the pair again. The end of this month we should be ready to breed Ty. The sire selected for Ty is a beautiful dark chocolate boy that has sired many litters and has imprinted very VERY nicely into the pups. He has collected many ribbons over the years and is a known and sought after sire by many. I am so looking forward to this litter as well. Only time will tell and I will blog often to keep everyone on my lists informed. Enjoy, Pam
