Well, we know all our HGT families are anxious to see their puppies – so on a weekly basis we will post new individualized pictures of the puppies.

As the weeks pass, we will blog about the amazing changes the puppies go through and we will post the weekly pictures under the Goldens/Planned Litters section of the website so that the families can see a week-to-week comparison.

For the pups first week, you can see that they have all gained weight and are a little longer in length.  Having a small litter of 4; each pup has 3 teats to call their own. So there is always nourishment not too far away! The change that I look for is with their facial pigmentation.  They are born with very pink skin tones on their faces now at only 1 week their noses and mouths are a stunning black which is the breed standard.  I love this transformation :@)

Also we removed all the pups dewclaws.  We believe in this process as long as the pups are a couple of days old and as long as the owners are not planning in competing in any agility matches.  As the puppy grows, so does the dewclaw that is unbecoming and looks more like that of a hook on their ankle.  If the dewclaw is not groomed correctly it can continue to grow and become embedded into the dog’s ankle and require surgery.  Also and most importantly, if this dewclaw were to get snagged on a stick or vine it can cause profuse bleeding and intense pain.  We have seen a case where a dog was out hunting with its owner and got its dewclaw snagged and almost bled out before the owner was able to get the dog to the vet.  So to prevent any of this from ever happening to one of our HGT puppies, we remove this useless dewclaw.

Okay – now for the pictures!  Enjoy, Pam
