One Week Just flew…Now We Are 2 …Weeks :@)

At the two week mark, the puppies have developed a tremendous sense of smell… Normally at this point in time, the pups only have the sense of smell and taste; their ears and eyes are closed. However, as it seems, this litter of golden grands are anxious to see us and their eyes are starting to open a little early – see the little slits on the sides – they can see! Although I still think their ears are not completely open yet to let in sound. When we play with the pups, they actually open their mouths – rather wide – to take in our scent and try to figure out who and what is this that is holding me so lovingly.
The pups are starting to move around more freely (so-to-speak) in their small whelping box. You can see they really try very hard to move about and locate Sage. Our setup is one whelping box and another containment box. We like this arrangement so our mother dogs feel comfortable and have an additional place to relax alone and without the puppies, but more importantly as the pups age, they will figure out that they have two rooms to explore. As they age, this extra room, comes in very handy as each and every puppy, knows to use the ramp and not to soil where they sleep. They learn this at a very early age here at HGT :@)
It simply amazes me as to the differences in temperaments that I see so far just based on the interaction I have with the pups at this age.(The temperament training really starts around week 4.) Some pups accept being held and quite calmly fall asleep in the palm of my hands yet others squirm around restlessly until I place them back with Sage. Some are more trusting that others. My guess is that they cannot see us clearly yet and certainly feel uncomfortable being off a warm mat, away from mom and being in another unusual position or in one’s hand. Although all of this will change once they can see us with open eyes…their world will immediately change … and so will ours!
Here are the pictures of the pups at their 2-week mark. Amazing! To see the comparison pictures, please go to Goldens/Planned Litters & Pups
