Store the best Gleanings + Thin the Herd = The ‘Get’ + ‘Give’
Written by Pam on May 4, 2016
As a good breeder, I try my very best to do what is the right thing for all my dogs and puppies. We genetically test the adults and we make sure everyone passes their health clearances before entering into our breeding program. At HGT, we tend to hold-back our homegrown puppies that we interpret to exhibit the very best in structure, stance and temperament – seldomly do we let any of our defined proven lines go at maturity – no matter what. But once there is not enough space for everyone, then we need to only focus on what is right for the dog. At HGT we love all our dogs, but when it is evident that a young dog will not make show, we need to refocus our energies in finding the very best situation for him or her. Just because they will not make show does not mean that they are not going to excel at being a great pet – a smart pet – and a pet that will bring many many years of enjoyment, it simply means that they will never be able to succeed in the AKC show ring.
This HGT labrador has been homegrown, loved and trained – He is up-to-date on all his vaccinations. He has stayed with us even though we have tried to home him – but those Di-ya soft mouthng kisses – had us wanting more. He was the runt of the males from Koko’s last litter and is featured in many of our videos embedded into our blogs. He has learned many of the “Pam” commands which he does effortlessly and most often, without me asking. Please do not think that thinning or that of…culling the herd means letting go completely, it simply means, to me, a redirection of sorts and a redefined betterment for the dog. This wonderful creature will not go freely to his new home, there will be an interview process, there will be a cost involved and I have not yet figured out what it is just yet. He also will need to be altered prior to the release of any AKC registration papers. I would like to see that the altering procedure take place at our veterinarian’s office at the expense of the new family. If there are any travel costs, these too will be at the expense of the new family.
Currently we have a beautiful AKC registered labrador retriever who has just recently turned ____months old and will need to be placed with a loving family at the sole discretion of HGT. We will be interviewing a few interested families. I will make the final decision in the next month where he will enjoy his life.

If you think you might be interested in this interview process, I will need to hear from you. You will initially have to go to our Contact heading on this website and fill out the questionnaire in its entirely. Next to your name, write DI-YA. Once I have received your information, I will call you so I can tell you all about DiYA. I will be asking you questions about your family dynamics, etc. Only after we have this conversation will I be able to schedule time to meet. Thank you.
