What a Difference a week makes…AND what a difference a week will make when the puppy is home with you…!

The pups are now 6-weeks old and still growing both in size and in presence -they are learning how to stretch those vocal cords! The pups now have learned that the one high pitch yelp gets Koko up and in to check on them and a few of those same louder yelps to get me to care for them. My KokoBo families need to start planning for your new guest that will be with you for a long time. The pups need to eat every 4 – 5 hours – but when we sleep, they sleep so for approximately 10-12 hours there should not be any yelping. But once one of the pups wakes up, the others chirp …no …yelp in!. You need to decide where the pups kennel will be located – in a mudroom, in a kitchen or in your bedroom? For the first week of having the puppy in your home – everything will change – you need to make sure the pup learns to continue to soil ONLY on the newspaper (most of them already look for the paper to do their business) and then to move a soiled piece of paper outside where you continually want your pup to go. Are you planning on waking up early to let the pup out or let them cry it out and fall back to sleep. These are some things that I guarantee you will be facing. To keep the peace in my homestead, I wake up and tend to them – but all things can be changed – you do what is right for you and your family dynamics.
Also, the pups were seen by my veterinarian again today to have their first round of vaccinations or the DHPP (Distemper/Hepatitus/Parovirus/Parainfluenza) and a fecal test. All the pups and the entire staff had fun today. Now the pups have had their 6-week vaccinations and the next series of core vaccinations are due at their 9-week mark – so make sure you have a couple of appointments scheduled with your vet – 1) the 48- hour vet evaluation just to make sure all that I have told you is true – everyone is great! And 2) for the puppy’s 9-week vaccinations. It is not a good idea to vaccinate too early, as the vaccinations will not be effective. With the Brag Sheets, you will find your puppy’s health record as well as my vet’s business card so if there are any questions, feel free to call my vet and he will be more than happy to talk with you or your vet.
As a breeder, I look for different things during these appointments – I need to know that all the puppies internal & external given parts are present (even at 6 weeks) like the dropping of testicles (for those that are suppose to have them), that there are no heart murmurs and that each puppy is happy & healthy. We received a puppy wellness certificate for each of the 9 pups!
Below are some pictures when asleep and those when they are all awake waiting somewhat patiently for me to get to them… Enjoy, Pam
