Young & Old by Charles Kingsley 1819-1875
Written by Pam on July 19, 2014
I have come upon some rather old books and interesting enough – I just read a poem written by Mr. Charles Kingsley in the 1800’s and I wanted to share it with you. After you read it a couple of times, like I did, it gives you the feeling of accomplishment, feelings of knowledge, feelings of maturity and the feeling of loving and being loved by those that fill our lives with joy and make us complete. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Pam
When all the world is young, lad,
And all the trees are green;
And every goose a swan, lad,
And every lass a queen,
Then hey for boot and horse, lad,
And round the world away;
Young blood must have its course, lad,
And every DOG his day.
When all the world is old, lad,
And all the trees are brown;
And all the sport is stale, lad,
And all the wheels run down;
Creep home, and take your place there,
The spent and maimed among;
God grand you find one face there,
You loved – when all was young.
